Bahrain, Arabia Saudyjska, Dubaj, Zjednoczone Emiraty Arabskie i Egipt zerwały stosunki dyplomatyczne z Katarem i zamknęły swoją przestrzeń powietrzna dla Qatar Airways. Jednocześnie linie Emirates, Etihad Airways, FlyDubai, Air Arabia, Suadia i Gulf Air przestały latać do Doha. Zamknięcie przestrzeni powietrznej skutkuje również ograniczeniem przepustowości portu lotniczego w Doha tylko do jednego pasa startowego. Powodem takich sankcji jest domniemane finansowanie terroryzmu przez Katar.
